Biography

Dr. Glatz is the current Bishop-Rosson-Swift-Marchello Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas. He earned his PhD and MSc degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in 2017 and 2012, respectively. Before joining the University of Kansas, Dr. Glatz served as an Assistant Professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia from 2017 to 2022. He worked for several national and international energy companies, notably as a technology consultant for the Chief Technology Office of British Petroleum (BP) and a reservoir engineer consultant for Total S.A., and as a geochemist for a marine carbon dioxide removal startup. At the University of Kansas, his research focuses on the experimental aspect of coupled thermal-hydrological-mechanical-chemical (THMC) processes.

Education

Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, 2017, California

Research

Dr. Glatz’s research is focused on visualizing and quantifying coupled thermal, hydrological, mechanical, and chemical processes relevant to e.g., geologic hydrogen and rapid carbon mineralization using computed tomography (CT). His work also involves applying image processing and deep learning techniques to enhance CT data quality and enable the detection of sub-voxel-level phenomena.
