Please join us in congratulating Assistant Professor Jenny Robinson for being awarded an NIH Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) (R35).  This is an R01-equivalent grant that provides $1.25 million over 5 years.  The program distributes funding more widely among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators.

According to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences Webpage, “MIRA provides support for the research in an investigator's laboratory that falls within the mission of NIGMS. The goal of MIRA is to increase the efficiency of NIGMS funding by providing investigators with greater stability and flexibility, thereby enhancing scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs. The program will also help distribute funding more widely among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators. MIRA grants will generally be for 5 years, for both established investigators and early-stage investigators.”

Dr. Robinson and her team will utilize biomaterial technologies to interrogate sex differences in tissue repair by decoupling cell microenvironment and estrogen signaling to determine the role of each parameter independently on tissue repair using mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). The work will have broad implications for the design, development, and implementation of biomaterial therapies tailored to a patient’s sex to promote tissue repair, regeneration, and homeostasis.

Congratulations, Dr. Robinson!
